Step Into Wonder: Winter Illuminated at Kiwi Park

LUMA Enchanted Comes to Kiwi Park

We’re thrilled to be part of this year’s LUMA Enchanted — an immersive nighttime light walk now weaving its way through Kiwi Park.
LUMA Enchanted is the winter-long evolution of Queenstown’s internationally celebrated light festival. For the first time, our native bush and nocturnal habitats have become a canvas for luminous storytelling, creative installations, and magical experiences.
By opening our park after dark, we’re giving visitors a rare opportunity to experience Kiwi Park in an entirely new way — while keeping the wellbeing of our wildlife at the heart of everything we do.

Meet Our Two New Kea – And Their Stunning New Aviary

Our new Kea aviary is officially open! Thoughtfully designed with height, movement, and natural features in mind, this upgraded space gives our alpine parrots more room to fly, forage, and explore.
We also welcomed two new kea earlier this season — full of personality and already making themselves at home. From interactive keeper talks to impromptu aerial displays, there’s plenty to enjoy as our kea settle into their upgraded environment.
Missed the opening? Head to our social media for highlights and behind-the-scenes footage.

Sponsor a Tree – See Your Legacy Grow

Our long-running Sponsor a Tree program is entering an exciting new chapter — the native saplings donated by guests over recent years are now strong enough to be planted around the park.
Each tree carries a biodegradable tag with the name of its sponsor, marking a meaningful contribution to our reforestation efforts. As we gradually restore native bush and phase out exotic species, these trees will offer food, shade, and shelter to generations of wildlife.
Keep an eye out for your tree on your next visit — and thank you for helping our forest grow.

It’s Breeding Season – Love Is in the Air

As winter settles in, a quiet energy stirs across the park — breeding season has begun.
Our native birds are following the rhythms of the wild, and all around the park, courting pairs are reconnecting, bonding, and beginning the cycle of new life. You might spot whio (blue duck) gliding side by side, exchanging soft whistles and searching out nesting spaces.
In the treetops, kākā pairs are strengthening their bonds with tender grooming, food-sharing, and quiet conversation — all part of their courtship ritual.
These moments are subtle, intimate, and easy to miss unless you’re looking closely — but they’re a beautiful reminder that even in the coldest months, nature is quietly preparing for spring.
