Can I help you? 👀
Weka are notoriously curious birds, often following our wildlife team around just to see what’s going on.
Anything even slightly new or interesting instantly becomes the most exciting thing in the world to them!

Spotted! 🐸
While trimming grasses in the whio habitat, our wildlife team member Madison stumbled across this wee brown tree frog hanging out in the greenery.
Although not native to New Zealand, brown tree frogs (or whistling frogs) have made themselves at home here and can often be found in damp, leafy areas. It’s always cool to spot them around the park, even if they didn`t pay the admission fee.

A little friendly fire 🪨💦
Just like us, kea can have many sides to their colourful personalities. They are super intelligent and inquisitive birds, and this means they have a bit of a reputation for being a little naughty.
However, most of these cheeky behaviours are just their way of expressing themselves and keeping their minds active.
You can come see these awesome birds up close in our kea enclosure at Kiwi Park in Queenstown.

HBD Pakō 🎉🎂
The first kiwi to hatch at the park here in @queenstownnz in 8 years, our wee Pakō, turns 1 today! We’re stoked to share that he’s thriving and has grown into a very healthy and happy boy. He currently calls Kiwi House 3 home, where he spends his time with three of our other kiwi residents.
We love you Pakō and here’s to many more years of waddling around in the dark. 🤎

Scales on scales 🦎⚖️
Our wildlife team regularly performs health checks on all our resident wildlife. From measuring body length to tracking weight, these checks help us monitor their growth and ensure their wellbeing.
Recently, during a routine check-up for our geckos and tuatara, the team couldn’t resist snapping a few photos of these stunning little beauties. I mean, how could they not? Just look at them! 💚

Hoatapui plays a crucial role in our kiwi breeding program, so we always want to make sure she is in optimal health.
These routine health assessments involve a thorough examination of the nostrils, tongue, ears, eyes, wings, feet, weight and the cloaca (yes, the bumhole 🍑).
Kiwi Park legends, Anne and Al, are conducting the check, always aiming for a swift and stress-free experience for our feathered mates.
FYI - Hoatapui passed the check-up with flightless colours! 🙌🏽
