Unfortunately, the evidence suggests otherwise. 🤔
Since their introduction from Australia in 1837, possums have wreaked havoc on native birdlife populations.
Their are a number of trapping and eradication initiatives throughout the country, led by the likes of @docgovtnz, which are playing a vital role in reducing numbers. However, without any significant natural predators of their own, possums (and other invasive species, like stoats and rats) continue to pose a significant threat to some of our endangered native birds.
